• How to use design processes to help organise thinking, for example product analysis, investigations, using computer data bases and evaluation techniques.

• Whilst making their products they will;

o Use a wide range of materials finding out about their properties and appropriate uses.
o Use a range of marking and measuring skills to ensure accurate preparation on component parts.
o Use a range of tools, machines and equipment to assist in the making of their products.

• They will be involved in focussed practical tasks in which they develop and practice particular skills and knowledge.

We will also be encouraging the children to use their technological awareness by investigating and evaluating existing products.

We encourage the safe use of tools and equipment at all times – pupils are encouraged from the outset to appreciate their personal contribution to, and a responsibility for, a ‘safe’ working environment. By completing practical tasks in Design Technology, Food Technology and textiles the pupils will be encouraged to develop their personal skills and capabilities, progressively building upon the skills and knowledge gained in earlier years.
