The formal teaching of sex education starts in Year 5 when pupils study Life-Cycles. In Year 6 pupils start to consider puberty and the changes they are to face as they grow up. In Year 7 we teach the main component of our sex education programme in the Summer Term. Much of the work is based on the ITV series ‘Living and Growing’.
Parents meetings are held occasionally so that parents can see a selection of materials used and discuss what is taught.
Parents have the right to withdraw their own child from these lessons, although by law they have to be taught the biological aspects of this subject. Queries about matters relating to this topic should be addressed to Mrs D Patterson.
