Science

The school places a great deal of importance upon the learning of Science and provides laboratory facilities and specialist teaching in this area of the curriculum. The science laboratory was completely refurbished in 2000 and has up to date ICT teaching aids. We encourage children to value and appreciate the diversity and application of scientific studies.

During their four years in the school the children explore a wide range of topics through an experimental and investigative approach. They encounter work on Life Processes and Living Things, Materials and their Properties and Physical Processes. Each child should acquire a sufficient body of knowledge, skills and understanding from which they can demonstrate their ability and use in future studies. Close consultation with our partnership schools ensures smooth transfer and full coverage of national Curriculum requirements.

A variety of homework tasks will be encountered, mostly from the workbook. All pupils are asked to purchase a homework workbook (£1) in each Key Stage. They are also required to purchase a revision guide (£2) for each Key Stage to help their learning.

Pupils may also be asked to carry out research activities from sources such as libraries and computers.
