Throughout their time here the children undertake a balanced programme of music comprising composition, performance, listening and appraisal. Pupils will extend their skills using a variety of instruments including voice, keyboard and percussion. This will enable them to express ideas, feelings and moods through their own compositions and performance. Musical notation will be used as a means of recording music and performing that of others. A range of musical cultures and areas will be studied to aid understanding of how and why music works.
As their musical language and knowledge increase our children will learn to express their opinions freely and intelligently with regard to the music they hear. They will be encouraged to respect the views of others and to realise the enjoyment the subject gives. Opportunities exist for children who are musically gifted or interested to receive tuition from visiting music professionals.
