                                                                       SCHOOL MEALS MOVING FORWARD

Food For Life Partnership - Bronze Award

Northumberland County Council are committed to improving the quality of food and increasing the uptake of school lunches where Facilities Management Services provide the catering.  We undertook a project to ensure that our food meets the Food For Life criteria.

There are 3 standards of attainment:

  • Bronze Award
  • Silver Award
  • Gold Award

After a lot of hard work by the team and a rigorous inspection by the Food for Life Partnership, Facilities Management Services within Northumberland County Council were awarded the Bronze Award in Autumn 2010 for the second year running.

SCHOOL MEALS IN NORTHUMBERLAND HAVE HAD A MAKEOVER!

If it's been a while since you tried a school meal you'll be amazed at your school's new menus.  Tomato & Basil Pasta, Homemade Chicken Pie and Roast Gammon are just a few of the delicious new meals you can find on the menu in your school.

All the meals are nutritionally balanced and meet the government's nutritional standards which provide just the right fuel to keep your body (and your mind) in tip top condition.  So, the easy way to make sure you're eating well and keeping yourself in shape is to opt for a school meal every day.

                                                 SCHOOL MEALS ON THE INCREASE

The number of children now eating healthy school meals in England has increased for the third year in a row - with more than 3 million children now having a school lunch every day.  We are backing these 'six staples' of good food at schools across the country:

  • Freshly cooked food
  • Giving children eniough time for lunch
  • Decent dining rooms
  • Affordable prices
  • 'Stay on site' policies
  • Cooking in the curriculum
